The Casa classrooms are comprised of preschool aged children in a mixed-age setting ranging from 4 to 6 years old. They may participate in either a half day morning (8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) or full day (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 a.m.) programme. Ideally, children enter Casa at the age of four and should be reliably toilet trained.
Casa classrooms are filled with a broad range of carefully prepared and attractive learning materials. These materials are divided into five major areas of curriculum: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Culture. In addition, the children have the opportunity to learn French from a specialist on a daily basis, and have weekly visits from our music and physical education specialists.
Giving Curious Minds a Place to Learn and Grow
Each child learns at a different rate and our programme is customized to meet each child’s individualized academic and social needs. Casa children have the freedom to choose from demonstrated activities and may repeat or extend these activities independently or in small groups. Teachers offer careful guidance so that students balance their choices from all areas of the curriculum. This individualized approach enables children to be actively involved in a process that lays the foundation for good work habits, a positive self-image, and a confident, self-motivated attitude toward future learning experiences.
Casa children learn in an enriched, mixed-age grouping, within a stimulating classroom environment. Students are encouraged to make responsible choices and to take ownership of the education process as they work with materials that emphasize reason, relationships, analysis and abstraction. As always, the focus is on the individual child.
Our specialist teachers provide French, music and physical education instruction which enriches the Montessori Casa programme. SMS also offers rich environmental and cultural programmes to enhance their learning beyond the classroom.
