History
SMS was founded by Roshmina (Mina) Shamji in September 1986. The school year began with just 12 children in a small classroom located on Lawrence Avenue in Kitchener. A full day programme and a second classroom were established in 1988. By 1990, the school had outgrown its original space when a group of 10 students wished to remain at the school for the Elementary programme. In 1998, a former Catholic School at 10 Boniface Road was purchased which allowed for the expansion of the school and the addition of the Junior High programme in 2002. Since then, SMS has developed and grown into the educational environment it is today.

For more than three decades, SMS staff and faculty have delivered high-quality Montessori education in a warm, welcoming and vibrant environment. In 2017, Mrs. Shamji transitioned ownership to McLean Education Group to ensure the ongoing continuity of the school’s vision and success.
Mrs. Shamji continues as Head of SMS during this transition and owns and operates the Canadian Montessori Academy in Maputo, Mozambique.
