Through participation in micro-economy activities, such as running the daily milk programme and Friday hot lunches, as well as various other business ventures of their own initiative, Grade 7 & 8 students are exposed to financial literacy, business management, and entrepreneurship. Students engage in a process of identifying community, not-for-profit organizations that support local and international children’s initiatives.
Students are offered leadership opportunities and form committees to assist with school leadership and mentoring while participating in experiences beyond the classroom including leadership retreats, field trips, Model UN Conferences, outdoor education and community service work. This includes an annual fall Outdoor Education Trip and an end-of-the-year trip to the Kenauk Institute to engage students in teamwork, leadership activities, environmental learning, and personal challenge.
Our Junior High programme is designed to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of the emerging adolescent. During this critical period of development, we provide an environment where students can learn to lead, be courageous, and develop resilience. Montessori encourages autonomy, self-direction, confidence and time management – important skills for any student to master in today’s increasingly social and collaborative world.
